The future of MWBEs is in danger of extinction. In the next 6 months, we could be losing 85% of these business. We cannot let this happen! COVID was a wake up call for small businesses and larger companies to recognize that they did not have a crisis contingency plans for handling situations like this. For MWBEs that were are already struggling, COVID has become a death sentence. 30% of MWBEs have stated that they will not survive the next 30 days.

The City is not providing these businesses with the help they truly need. 60% of the MWBEs who tried to do business with the City received no response. That is just insane in my opinion. It is time for MWBEs to start looking into more opportunities with the private sector for help and it is time for the private sector to lend the hand to honestly work with MWBEs.

It's also time for the City to truly be honest about their efforts on helping MWBEs. The City has to stop trying to check off boxes and actually do the real work to help these businesses. We have seen the numbers about MWBEs winning contracts but how many of them have actually gotten paid?
